Gaelscoil Neachtain Traffic Issue

11 Samhain, 2019.

A Thuismitheoir, a chara,

I write again in relation to a traffic issue at Gaelscoil Neachtain. A particular danger has been brought to my attention regarding traffic waiting in the central lane of the main road outside the Gaelscoil, unable to enter the grounds due to lack of space. This may happen around 2.45pm just before the children come out to go home. Not only do these stationary cars on the main road cause through traffic to come to a halt but it has been reported that some drivers have attempted to ‘squeeze’ between these stationary Gaelscoil cars in the central lane and Gaelscoil traffic waiting on the Glenshane bound lane. As you are aware, this practice has very serious implications for all drivers, passengers and vehicles. Having discussed this issue at the Board of Governors’ meeting on Wednesday, 6th November, it was agreed that whilst we cannot be responsible for other drivers, we could agree to not stop in the central lane outside the Gaelscoil if we see that there is no room available to cross the road and enter the grounds. This action would, at least, minimise the danger to all on the main road. We are asking for your co-operation in this matter and, in anticipation, appreciate your co-operation. Go raibh maith agat.

Is Mise le Meas,

Máirín Uí Cheallaigh,
